This wonderful watch is the Cartier Tank Louis Jumbo XL Cartier's iconic Tank watch is arguably their most recognisable model. The Tank's name and design stems from the FT-17, a French tank made by Renault used during the first World War The Tank has been sold in many different variations through the years, Cartier liked to experiment with variants of the design, but they have always stuck to the basic 'Tank' design. The "Jumbo' model was introduced in the 1970's, and the difference between the Jumbo and the other Tanks by Cartier are immediately very obvious; the case is slightly larger than earlier models and it's the only Tank to have an automatic movement; the ETA Caliber 170 and to fit the automatic movement in the case Cartier created a 'bubble' in the case back to accommodate the slightly larger movement. While the exact quantity of the Tank Jumbo is unknown, they were only made for a short time in the 1970's and there are never more than a few on the market at any time. |
